Types and uses of personal information

Email Lists

If you provide us your email address to be added to our list, we will not share it with anyone outside of Epic. We use email addresses only to send updates on our latest stories or news about Epic, features, and stories that we think our readers might be interested in.

Our newsletter registration system requires a valid email address, used to confirm the subscription. If the user changes the information on his or her subscription, Epic’s stored data backups may include the user’s original information. Separately, when any Epic administrators are emailed, the addresses and correspondence are retained. This information is saved to respond to issues and inquiries of all types.

Aggregate Data Collection on Reading Habits

The Epic web sites, mobile apps and/or other services, may collect certain non-personally identifiable information, such as how you read and which multimedia components you take advantage of. This data is stored securely on our servers and is used to enable us to understand broad trends in how people are reading and utilizing our content, in order to better serve our readers.

Information Sharing

Aggregated reading and demographic information about our audience may be shared with third parties, including browser information and traffic statistics. This data is not tied to any individual readers’ accounts or personally identifiable information.

Personally Identifiable Information

No personally identifiable information is shared with third parties, with limited exceptions, namely: We reserve the right to access, preserve, and disclose any information as we reasonably believe is necessary, in our sole discretion, to (i) satisfy any law, regulation, legal process, governmental request, or governmental order, (ii) enforce this Privacy Policy, including investigation of potential violations hereof, (iii) detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security, trust and safety, or technical issues (including exchanging information with other companies and organizations for the purposes of improving security and preventing fraud, spam, and malware), (iv) respond to user support requests, or (v) protect the rights, property, health or safety of us, our users, any third parties or the public in general, including but not limited to situations involving possible violence, suicide, or self-harm.

We believe in freedom of expression, and, to the extent reasonable, we will try to protect our community from baseless legal demands.
